New Blog

Welcome to Career and Academic Connection's newest blog, Empowerment Tech.  The blog came about because Career Tech is committed to empowering men and women of all ages to explore non-traditional education fields.
What are non-traditional  careers?
Non-traditional careers are those occupations in which one gender comprises less than 25% of the current workforce.
Why consider a non-traditional career?
It is important for individuals to consider a career based on their interest, abilities, and needs.  A person's gender should not be a determining factor in choosing a career path.
You may be asking yourself, is this really necessary in 2013?
The answer is yes!  During the last 40 years since Title IX passed, considerable progress has been made to eliminate gender bias in education, but we still have a long way to go.  Forty years after the passage of Title IX, vocational education enrollments continue to show gender discrepancies.  For example, women receive only 20% of computer science and engineering related technology degrees, and men only represent 7.2% of registered nurses.
In this blog you can expect to find information related to gender equity.  Upcoming gender equity workshops/training, articles, books, and other helpful tips and resources will be posted so that as educators we can continue to empower men and women who are exploring non-traditional fields in education.
